Shimla Packages at a Glance
Shimla tour packages put the whole of Himachal's summer capital within a 2-night to weeklong plan, from Mall Road and the Ridge to the toy train, Kufri's slopes and the quiet excursions out to Chail and Naldehra. We currently list 223 Shimla packages starting at Rs 5,000 per person, every one of them customisable on dates, hotels and sightseeing.
Shimla sits at about 2,200 metres in Himachal Pradesh, the old British summer capital and still one of the easiest hill stations to reach from the plains. A package here works for almost any group. Families take the toy train and the Kufri ride, couples slow down at Naldehra and Chail, and friends stack the days with ice skating, paragliding at Kufri and rafting at Tattapani. Tell us your dates and budget and a local agent builds the trip around them.

Best Time to Visit Shimla
Shimla is a year-round hill station, but what you get changes sharply by season. If snow is the point, come between December and February. For warm-weather sightseeing and adventure, aim for March to June.
March to June (summer, peak season)
Summers are mild, roughly 15°C to 30°C, and this is the busiest stretch. It is the right window for paragliding, trekking and camping around Naldehra, Kufri, Chharabra and Narkanda, and for unhurried days at Jakhoo Temple, Christ Church and Tara Devi. Book early; hotels and packages fill fast through May and June.
July to September (monsoon)
The hills stay cooler than the plains, about 15°C to 25°C, and the crowds thin out. Mid-July and August bring the heaviest rain, easing by September. It suits couples after a quiet, green break, but landslides are possible, so this is not the season for adventure activities. If you plan a monsoon trip, lock the package well in advance.
October to February (winter, snow season)
Temperatures fall to roughly 0°C to 17°C and the peaks turn white, usually with the best snow in January. This is the time for skiing and ice skating, and for sightseeing at Annandale, Kali Bari, Lakkar Bazaar and the Viceregal Lodge. For a snow-first trip, plan for late December to January and pack for genuine cold.
Top Places to Visit in Shimla
Most Shimla packages are built around a compact core of colonial landmarks and viewpoints, then extended to nearby Kufri, Chail, Naldehra and Mashobra. Here is what your itinerary usually covers.
Mall Road and the Ridge
Mall Road is the pedestrian spine of Shimla, lined with woollen shops, cafes, bakeries and old wood-and-stone storefronts, open through the day until about 9 PM. It runs into the Ridge, the wide open plaza at the heart of town beside Christ Church, where the festivals and evening crowds gather. Scandal Point, tied to the old legend of the Patiala Maharaja's elopement, sits right at the junction and is the classic meeting spot.
Christ Church
The second-oldest church in North India stands on the Ridge, built in neo-Gothic style with a yellow facade, stained-glass windows and a pipe organ. It is open roughly 10:30 AM to 1 PM and 2:15 PM to 5:30 PM, about 5 km from the centre, and easy to pair with a Mall Road walk.
Jakhoo Temple and Jakhoo Hill
Jakhoo Hill is the highest point in Shimla at about 2,455 metres, and the Hanuman temple on top is marked by a 108-foot statue you can see from most of the city. Reach it by the cable car, by taxi, or on the short uphill hike, open around 7 AM to 8 PM. The view across the ranges from the top pays back the climb.
Viceregal Lodge (Rashtrapati Niwas)
The former residence of the British Viceroy sits on Observatory Hill, about 3 km out, with British-era architecture, manicured lawns and a collection of historical articles. It is open 10 AM to 6 PM and closed on Mondays, and works well for history-minded travellers. The Himalayan Bird Park nearby, home to pheasants and peafowl, keeps to similar hours.
Shimla State Museum and Summer Hill
The Himachal State Museum on Mount Pleasant holds colonial-era paintings, handicrafts, sculptures and textiles, open 10 AM to 5 PM and closed Mondays. Summer Hill, one of Shimla's seven hills about 5 km from the centre, is a leafy walk with wide valley views and quiet sunrise and sunset spots near the Institute of Advanced Study.
Things to Do in Shimla
Beyond the sightseeing, Shimla packs in enough to fill several days.
• Ride the Kalka-Shimla toy train. A UNESCO World Heritage narrow-gauge line through about 100 tunnels and dozens of bridges; the ride from Kalka to Shimla is an attraction in itself.
• Go ice skating. Shimla has one of the few natural ice rinks in the country; open-air skating runs through the winter for beginners and regulars alike.
• Ski at Kufri. Kufri, about 16 km out, is the go-to for winter skiing and snow play, with sledging and horse rides when the runs are open.
• Raft at Tattapani. Tattapani, one of the larger rafting stretches in Himachal, also has natural hot-water springs to soak in afterwards.
• Shop at Lakkar Bazaar. Lakkar Bazaar is the place for woollens, shawls, wooden crafts and antiques; Mall Road and Lower Bazaar round out the shopping.
• Walk the pine trails. The short trek up to Jakhoo Temple, a walk through the pine forest, and the sunset from Scandal Point are the easy wins on any Shimla trip.
Shimla Tour Packages From Top Cities
Shimla connects well to every major metro, so a package can start from wherever you are. The nearest broad-gauge railhead is Kalka, an hour below the town, and the practical airport is Chandigarh, about 113 km away.
Pick a ready city-wise plan from Shimla packages from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. Travelling from the east, you can also book a ready shimla tour package that folds in the onward journey.
How to Reach Shimla
By train
The most scenic way in is the Kalka-Shimla toy train, a UNESCO-listed narrow-gauge line that climbs about 96 km from Kalka to Shimla in roughly 5 to 6 hours. Kalka is the nearest broad-gauge railhead, reached from Delhi and Chandigarh by regular trains including the Kalka Shatabdi.
By road
Shimla is about 343 km from Delhi, a 6 to 7 hour drive on the Kalka-Shimla highway. HRTC and private Volvo buses run overnight from Delhi and Chandigarh and keep costs down, while a private cab gets you door to door and lets you stop along the way.
By air
The closest airport is Shimla's own Jubbarhatti, about 22 km out, but flights are limited. Most travellers fly into Chandigarh (about 113 km, roughly 4 hours by road) and continue by cab or bus.
Compare Shimla Package Types
A quick read on which package suits which trip. Prices are per person, land only, and vary with hotel category and season.
| Package type | Nights | Price from (Rs) | Best for | Key inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | 2N/3D | 5,000 | First trip, value seekers | 3-star stay, cab, Shimla sightseeing |
| Honeymoon | 2N/3D | 9,000 | Couples | Handpicked stay, candlelight add-on, Kufri day |
| Family | 3N/4D | 12,000 | Parents with kids | Comfort hotels, Kufri, toy train, private cab |
| Group / friends | 3N/4D | 11,000 | Friends, larger groups | Group stay, adventure add-ons, Tattapani |
| Luxury | 4N/5D | 25,000 | Premium travellers | 4 to 5-star stay, curated experiences, private transfers |
How to Choose the Right Shimla Package
By who you are travelling with. Couples do best on a Shimla honeymoon package built around Naldehra and Chail; parents with kids want a Shimla family package with the toy train and Kufri built in.
By budget. Value trips start on a budget Shimla package from Rs 5,000; for premium hotels and private experiences, look at a luxury Shimla package.
By how long you have. A 2N/3D trip covers Shimla and Kufri comfortably. Add a night for Chail or Naldehra, and go 5N/6D if you want to pair Shimla with Manali.
By season. Come Oct to Feb for snow, Mar to Jun for adventure and clear valley views. For a full month-by-month breakdown, see the Shimla travel guide.
What to Pack for Shimla
Weather swings hard by season, so pack for the months you are travelling. In winter (Oct to Feb) carry heavy woollens, a proper jacket, gloves, a cap and waterproof shoes for snow. In summer (Mar to Jun) light woollens for the evenings are enough over cottons. Year-round, keep sunscreen, a power bank, any regular medicines, and cash for the toy-train counter and smaller shops where cards are patchy.

FAQs About Shimla Tour Packages
How much does a Shimla tour package cost?
A Shimla package starts at about Rs 5,000 per person for a 2N/3D budget trip, land only. A typical mid-range 3N/4D trip for two runs roughly Rs 20,000 to Rs 45,000 depending on hotel category, season and add-ons like Kufri activities or a Manali extension. Flights or train fare are usually extra.
What is the best time to visit Shimla?
For snow, come between December and February, with January the most reliable. For pleasant weather and adventure like paragliding and trekking, March to June is ideal. July to September is quieter and greener but carries a landslide risk during heavy rain.
Can I see snow in Shimla, and which month?
Yes. Shimla and nearby Kufri usually get snow between late December and February, with January the safest bet for fresh snow. Snowfall varies year to year, so build in a flexible day or two if snow is the main goal, and keep Kufri and Narkanda on the plan for the best chance.
How many days are enough for Shimla and Kufri?
Two nights and three days covers Shimla town and a Kufri day comfortably. Add a night if you also want Chail or Naldehra, and plan five to six days if you are combining Shimla with Manali on the same trip.
Is it safe to travel to Shimla?
Shimla is one of the safer hill stations in India and is fine for families, couples and solo travellers. The main things to watch are mountain roads in monsoon, when landslides can delay travel, and winter ice on some stretches. Travel with a verified agent, keep to daytime drives on hill roads, and check road status before winter trips.
Where should I stay in Shimla?
Stay on or near Mall Road and the Ridge if you want to walk to the sights and the shopping. For quieter, greener surroundings, look at Chharabra, Mashobra, Kufri or Naldehra, a short drive out. Your package hotel can be swapped to match your budget and the area you prefer.
Can Shimla honeymoon packages be customised?
Yes. Every Shimla package, honeymoon or otherwise, is fully customisable. You can change the hotels, the number of nights, sightseeing and add-ons like a candlelight dinner or a Kufri day, and the agent rebuilds the quote around your choices.
What is an ideal trip duration for Shimla?
Two nights and three days is the sweet spot for Shimla and Kufri. Three to four nights lets you add Chail, Naldehra or Tattapani without rushing. Anything longer is usually a combined Himachal trip taking in Manali or Dharamshala.
How far is Shimla from Delhi?
Shimla is about 343 km from Delhi by road, a 6 to 7 hour drive via the Kalka-Shimla highway. You can also take a train to Kalka and switch to the toy train, or fly to Chandigarh (about 113 km away) and continue by cab.
What are the top things to do in Shimla?
Ride the Kalka-Shimla toy train, go ice skating in winter, ski or play in the snow at Kufri, trek up to Jakhoo Temple, raft at Tattapani, and shop for woollens and wooden crafts at Lakkar Bazaar. Watching the sunset from Scandal Point is the easy classic.
Are Shimla packages good for families with kids?
Yes. Families are the most common group we plan Shimla trips for. The toy train, Kufri's snow and rides, and the flat walks around Mall Road and the Ridge all work well for children, and hotels can be chosen for comfort and location. Keep the pace gentle on the first day to adjust to the altitude.
What should I shop for in Shimla?
Shimla is known for heavy woollens, shawls, Himachali caps, wooden handicrafts, fruit wines, and local pulses and spices. Lakkar Bazaar is best for wood and woollens, Mall Road and Lower Bazaar for a wider mix, and the Himachal Emporium for fixed-price authentic buys.
Which are the best restaurants in Shimla?
Long-standing favourites include Baljee's and Fascination and Devicos on Mall Road, along with the Indian Coffee House, Cafe Under the Tree and the Oberoi's dining rooms. For local flavour, try Himachali dishes like Chha Gosht, Sidu, Dham and Madra.
